Intent
At Court Farm Primary, our intent for the Art curriculum is to foster a profound appreciation of creativity and visual literacy among our students. We aim to equip pupils with the skills and confidence to express themselves through various artistic mediums, promoting both individual expression and collaborative engagement. Our Art program is designed to:
- Cultivate Creativity: Encourage students to explore their creativity freely and generate original ideas while developing their artistic skills through diverse techniques and materials.
- Cultural Understanding: Introduce pupils to a wide range of artistic movements, cultural traditions, and global art forms, promoting an understanding and appreciation of diversity in artistic expression.
- Critical Thinking: Develop pupils’ ability to critique and analyse their own work and the work of others, fostering reflective practice and an understanding of the role of art in society.
- Cross-Curricular Links: Integrate Art with other subjects to enhance a holistic educational experience, allowing students to see the relevance of their artistic studies in a broader context.
Implementation
Our Art curriculum at Court Farm Primary is implemented through a structured yet flexible approach that encourages exploration and innovation. Following the Kapow scheme, the children will learn and develop skills in drawing, painting in mixed media, sculpture and 3D and craft and design.
To ensure this progression, we at Court Farm use the Kapow scheme. Key components of our implementation strategy include:
- Curriculum Design: The Art curriculum is designed in accordance with the National Curriculum, ensuring comprehensive coverage of knowledge, skills, and techniques. Lessons are thematic and linked to other subjects, fostering inter-disciplinary connections. By gradually increasing the complexity of tasks, we ensure that all pupils, regardless of their starting point, are challenged and inspired.
- High-Quality Resources: We provide a rich array of resources, including quality art materials, access to digital tools, and community partnerships that enhance learning. Visiting artists and workshops further enrich our curriculum, exposing students to professional practices and contemporary art.
- Differentiated Instruction: Our teaching strategies are tailored to accommodate different learning styles and abilities. We provide scaffolding for less confident students while challenging advanced learners with more complex projects and responsibilities.
- Professional Development: Staff receive ongoing professional development to ensure they are equipped with the latest pedagogical approaches in Art education. This is crucial for maintaining high standards and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Parental and Community Engagement: Engagement with parents and the wider community is actively encouraged through exhibitions, open studios, and collaborative projects that showcase the artistic achievements of our pupils.
