Year 4

Welcome to the Year 4 class page. Here at Court Farm we aim to ensure all children are motivated, enthused and eager learners. We value each child as an individual and ensure that our engaging, challenging and creative curriculum is accessible for every child.

We believe that collaboration and clear communication between parents/guardians and school is paramount to pupil’s enjoyment and progress. Please do not hesitate to come and see us either before or after school if you have any questions or queries. Alternatively message us on Class Dojo.

Curriculum Overview

Maths

In our maths lessons, we follow White Rose Maths. Please see the scheme of learning below to see the teaching overview for this academic year.

Alongside our Maths lessons, we work throughout the year in preparation for the National Multiplication Check during the Summer Term, to assess all children’s learning of multiplication facts up to 12x. We are subscribed to the Times Table Rockstars learning platform. This provides us and parents with access to a range of resources and apps for home learning. The Times Tables Rockstars app can support home learning of times tables by testing and tracking times table learning and performance. It also offers the opportunity to play games against other users in fast-paced competitions.

Pie Corbett’s Reading Spine

We want Court Farm to be a place where children are read to, enjoy, discuss and work with high-quality books. These ‘essential reads’ would be a store of classics, creating a living library inside a child’s mind. This is the ‘Reading Spine’. We have provided the Pie Corbett reading spine in our classrooms so that children have access to these high-quality texts. Please see the attached document, to see what great books have been recommended for our year group.

Pie Corbett says…

“Great books build the imagination. The more we read aloud expressively, and the more children are able to savour, discuss and reinterpret literature through the arts, the more memorable the characters, places and events become, building an inner world. A child who is read to will have an inner kingdom of unicorns, talking spiders and a knife that cuts into other worlds. The mind is like a ‘tardis’; it may seem small but inside there are many mansions. Each great book develops the imagination and equips the reader with language.
