Plantsbrook science department visit

Back to News and Events

Students from Court Farm visited Plantsbrook for a special lesson on circuits and an introduction to secondary school science.

It’s the first time our pupils have had the chance to utilise Plantsbrook’s subject knowledge, expertise and facilities since joining Broadleaf Partnership Trust at the start of the school year.

They were able to build electrical circuits and test materials to see if they were conductors or insulators, under the guidance and supervision of Sixth Form volunteers who have shown an interest in mentoring and teaching younger students about science, providing them with valuable skills in leadership, communication, and teamwork.

Mr Hemraj was in charge of the visit and says everyone really got into the tasks provided:

Year 6 had a fantastic time at Plantsbrook.  The children were fully engaged in their science lesson and applied their learning on electrical circuits.  It was lovely to see the children display a passion for their learning and I am grateful for Plantsbrook staff and pupils for their cooperation.  We are very much looking forward to our next visit!

The trip was arranged by Plantsbrook’s Learning and Teaching Expert in Science, Miss Hanif, who says there was overwhelming positive feedback:

“The students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to experience science in a fully equipped laboratory environment. Their feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing excitement about the hands-on nature of the session. They found it engaging, educational, and inspiring, and many expressed a keen interest in returning for similar experiences in the future.

The students were engaged in building electrical circuits, which is a particularly challenging yet essential part of the science curriculum. This hands-on experience allowed them to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, helping to reinforce their understanding of electrical components and circuit design.”

Similar opportunities have been given to another member of Broadleaf Partnership Trust, Town Junior School, in the past, and Miss Hanif says it’s an important part of the collaboration across schools whether Primary or Secondary:

“Sharing knowledge and best practices across schools within the trust is incredibly important. Collaboration between institutions fosters a richer learning environment and ensures that students benefit from a wide range of expertise and teaching approaches. By working together, we can enhance educational outcomes, support staff development, and create more engaging and effective learning experiences.”
