Celebrating World Book Day with Poetry Slam

Back to News and Events

On World Book Day we held our annual whole school Poetry Slam.

Pupils from Reception to Year 6 recited poems to the rest of the school. It was amazing to see our pupils perform as a team with confidence and conviction.

Performance poetry is an important part of the English curriculum, and it is great to see our pupils listening to and performing a range of poems.

Well done to Year 6 for their outstanding performance of ‘ Don’t ’by Michael Rosen. They were awarded our Poetry Slam trophy to keep in their classroom.

We also held a fun rendition of ‘The Masked Reader’ where pupils and staff had to guess which staff member was behind the mask and the book they were reading in Mrs Simmons’ World Book Day assembly.

There were some funny faces and accents but there was no fooling the pupils who correctly guessed that Mr Rider, Mr Boden and Mrs Simmons had disguised themselves to read extracts from some well-known stories.
